Wedding Dresses - How to Shop for your Wedding Dress

By Cori Locklin You've done the research. You're an expert on ballgown silhouettes and sweetheart necklines. Now the time has finally arrivedit's wedding dress shopping day! But like the rest of the wedding planning process, shopping for a wedding dress is slightly more complex than shopping for your basic pair of slacks. Know what to expect before you hit the stores! First, you must decide where you are going to shop; here are the most common options: Independently Owned Full Service Bridal Shops
These stores offer a full range of services for the bride and the wedding party, with designers and prices ranging from moderate to high-end. While off-the-rack is possible, these stores typically special-order wedding gowns for brides and attendants, so you should be prepared to wait a few months for your gown to arrive. You will mostly likely be able to purchase all of your bridal accessories, such as shoes, veils, undergarments and jewelry, and an in-store seamstress will consult with you on custom alterations. Couture Bridal Shops
Couture bridal shops represent a subsection of independently owned full service bridal shops. Offering the same range of services, they carry exclusive designer labels at higher-end prices. These bridal boutiques are usually found in major cities. Department Stores
Department stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and JC Penny offer wedding gowns, while others such as Lord & Taylor and Hecht's only offer bridesmaid dresses. These gowns are usually bought off-the-rack; however, your wedding dress may be specially ordered from another store if your size is not in stock. Most of these stores offer in-house alterations. Discount Bridal Outlets
Discount bridal outlets offer a mix of discontinued national brands and privately labeled merchandise at reduced prices. While you will not find the same level of service found at privately owned bridal shops, you may be able to find the designer wedding dress of your dreams at an affordable price. Dresses are bought off-the-rack, so you may take the gown home the day your purchase it. Since these stores typically do not offer on-site alterations, make sure you can find a trusted seamstress. Nationwide Bridal Chain Stores
Bridal chain stores manufacture, import, and sell their own private label wedding gowns. While the style selection is more limited than in other types of stores, the prices are usually lower. Be prepared for a lower level of service and little sales assistance, but the ability to buy off the rack at a reasonable price can be a good option for short engagements. Custom Gown Designers
For a one-of-a-kind wedding gown, you can collaborate with a custom gown designer to specially create a wedding dress just for you. You can find such gown designers in most major cities. Be sure to select a designer whose vision you appreciate and trust. What to expect once you're in the shop: Make an appointment, and, if possible, try to shop during a weekday. You will receive more attentive service if your sales associate can dedicate his/her time especially for you. Consider bringing the lingerie that you will wear at the wedding. This will help you determine exactly how the wedding dress will look and feel on the big day. Bring someone with you whose opinion you respect and trust, but avoid bringing an entire brigade of "experts." Too many opinions will distract you. Many bridal boutiques will not simply allow you to browse through the selection of wedding dresses; rather they will bring gowns to you one at a time. At these boutiques, a sales associate will sit down with you to discuss your style and will bring you dresses that reflect your vision. That said, allow them to bring you many styles. While you may have an idea of what you want, you never know what looks best on your body style until you try it. Most likely, you will not try on dresses in your actual size. Stores typically carry sample sizes (8-10), and the sales associate will pin it to your body. Don't forget that you will have to be fitted - up to 3 times - before your wedding dress fits perfectly. If the store has an in-house seamstress, ask for an alterations estimate. Wedding dresses tend to run small, so be prepared to order a size that is larger than you normally wear. Go with your gut! If you need to be convinced that a wedding dress looks good on you, it's probably not "the one." If there is a specific feature you want changed, you can usually request it. Keep in mind that any design changes will increase the cost of the wedding gown. When determining the cost of your wedding dress, remember to factor in the cost for the veil, which can run up to $500 and beyond, and other accessories such as shoes, headpiece etc. Sleep on it. Most stores have a no return policy, so you need to be sure before making your final decision. Once you have found "the dress" and made your final decision, you will usually pay a 50% deposit on the dress. Afterwards - the store will take your measurements to order size - don't be tempted to order one too small in hopes of losing weight. Remember that the dress usually takes a few months to be made, so make sure you leave enough time for alterations. Unity In Christ

By Glen D. Williams Make Us One: So, the song pleads in prayer to our One True God. It's a theme that's been visited throughout my Christian experience and must have been around since the first church split, over a thousand years ago. Based on my observations as a minister since 1991, unfortunately, most of those praying for Christian unity are truly asking, "Please make those other poor heretical fools agree with me, so we can fellowship together." This article will reveal, to the surprise of many, despite the silly factions and divisions, the Christian Church is, always has been and always will be...united. Silly Factions: Some of you are already asking how the Church can be united when you see over 100 Christian denominations in the phone book and none of them talk to one another. You're right! The first church split was over the use of communion wafers with leavening in them. Some, on whether Adam had a belly-button. Then, there's the predestination debate, the tongues debate, the adornment issue, the long hair issue...seems to be no end to the subjects professing Christians will make enemies over. I've been told, at various times, by well-meaning Christians, that I'm going to Hell and leading others there because I make it too easy for people to accept Jesus, because I use the NIV Bible and because I don't make water baptism a condition of salvation. If you agree with my critics, maybe now would be a good time to stop reading this article. Of course, then, you wouldn't know how I can look at all this stuff and say that Christianity is united. The reason I can make that claim is because that's what the Bible says, at least, all reliable versions. It refers to the Church as the body (not bodies) of Christ. The Bible says we have one body and one Spirit, one hope, one faith, one baptism...one God. It says we Christians have God within us, have the mind of Christ and participate in the Divine Nature. How can God be divided? Factions don't indicate disunity in Christ, instead, they provide opportunity for us to affirm our unity in Him, just as I'm doing, here. Because of the factions, our unity in Christ is made even more clear. In fact, the factions confirm the validity of God's Word. Avoid Division: In the Word, Jesus said there would be weeds mixed in with the wheat by the devil. He said many would turn away from the faith, betray and hate each other, that the love of most would grow cold. Paul wrote that there would be false prophets that would say whatever our itching ears wanted to hear. The Bible gives us a mission to go into the World to reach the lost, but tells us to avoid divisive Christians. So, when you see factions and divisions among professing Christians, don't follow the temptation to choose a side...choose Christ. When you see professing Christians who hate and judge the lost or refuse to fellowship with other Christians who are different...avoid them...and praise God! The Word is being fulfilled. Seek Him Only: To be unified, we only need to seek Jesus Christ in our whole life and make love our aim. The Bible says whoever does not have love does not have Christ. We who are in Christ share a love that's beyond the boundaries of denomination or country or language. As Christ lived, we live to share that love with anyone who will believe. Our love is beyond time and space, because it's His love. His love cannot be divided...only multiplied. How To Plan Your Wedding Ceremony Music

By Rose Smith Not all songs are created equal. The type of wedding ceremony music that you choose will be quite different from the wedding reception music. There is also the consideration on the type of wedding you will be having - whether it is a traditional religious ceremony or a less formal occasion, such as a garden wedding or beach wedding. In this article, we are going to be looking at music choices that would fit into a more formal and religious atmosphere. What Type Of Music Is Needed For Each Segment In a traditional ceremony arrangement, low-key instrumental music is usually played and begins about a half hour before the ceremony begins. This is called the Prelude. Most times, if you don't have any real choices in songs, the organist will play the typical wedding selections that other bride's and groom's have used. If you wish to pick your own Prelude songs, a few of the more popular choices are: * Canon in D by Pachelbel
* Air From Water Music by Handel
* Ave Maria by Bach
* Greensleeves by David Chamberlain
* Waltz (from Sleeping Beauty) by Tchaikovsky
* We've Only Just Begun by The Carpenters
* Tonight I Celebrate My Love (For You) by Peabo Bryson & Roberta Flack
* Breathless by Kenny G You will then need to choose what music you would prefer for your Processional (as you walk down the aisle). Some brides will elect to have traditional instrumental music such as Canon in D, Ave Maria, and of course the tune that everyone knows: The Wedding March (Here Comes The Bride). However, more and more of today's brides are chosing tunes from popular song artists. Here is a short list of Processional songs that tend to be favorites: * Power Of Love by Celine Dion
* What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong and Kenny G
* Endless Love by Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross
* Grow Old With Me by Mary Chapin Carpenter
* Look At You Girl by Chris Ledoux
* From This Moment On by Shania Twain
* Because you Loved me by Celine Dion
* Only Time by Enya
* This I Swear by Nick Lachey
* Nadia's Theme by Barry De Vorzon and Perry Botkin, Jr. During the ceremony itself, there will be breaks when you will need to provide solos, hymns or instrumental music, such as when you are signing the register. Some common pieces sung by soloists are: * Wedding (There Is Love) by Stookey
* Ave Maria by Schubert
* Evergreen by Barbra Streisand
* One Hand, One Heart (West Side Story) by Bernstein and Sondheim
* Sunrise, Sunset (Fiddler on the Roof) by Harnick and Bock
* Ode to Joy by Bethoven Finally the ceremony ends and the bride and groom turn to leave to the sounds of the Recessional. Here you will want a vibrant, joyous song or instrumental to play. You may choose from classical music or the more popular pop songs of today. A few examples are: * Wedding March from a Midsummer Night's Dream by Mendelssohn
* Overture from The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart
* Bridal March by Hollins
* Ode to Joy by Beethoven
* Nothings Going To Stop Us Now by Jefferson Starship
* Beautiful Day by U2
* Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
* Forever and Ever, Amen by Randy Travis Tips For Planning Your Music Selections Before you select any music, soloists or instrumentalists, you will need to get the answers to certain questions as follows: 1) Speak with your clergy member to find out if the religious venue you are considering provides an organist and/or choir. What other types of musicians are allowed and can he/she recommend anyone? Are other types of musicians allowed such as a harpist, flutist, guitarist, etc.? Can he/she recommend any soloists? 2) You will also need to determine if there are any restrictions on the types of songs and music played during the ceremony. In a very strict, religious church, you may be prohibited from playing any non-religious songs. 3) If the church or synagogue provides an organist or other instrumentalist, what is the fee that is charged for using them? What if you wish to use a friend or a particular organist rather than the one provided, are you allowed to substitute? 4) Determine what type of mood you want for your ceremony. Some couples want a more serious, solemn service, while other couples want a fun-filled, vibrant atmosphere. This will help you in your selection of wedding music, as well as deteriming the best soloist and musicians to hire. 5) If you have any friends or family members that are gifted musicians, you may want to consider asking them to provide the songs and music. It will provide an added personal touch to your ceremony. Be sure to thank them by presenting them with a small gift. In some cases, you may need to hire them just as you would any other professional musician, but it is usually much less expensive to do so. 6) Once you determine what music and songs you will be using, make sure all soloists and musicians have a copy of the music list along with when they are to be sung/played. If any of the songs or music are new to your performers, make sure you provide sheet music and give it to them early so they can prepare. 7) Purchase tapes and CD's of wedding music to listen to. This will help make your choices much easier. As you can see, there are quite a few details to resolve when planning out your wedding ceremony music. The above song suggestions are the ones more traditionally chosen. However, there are alway new popular songs by song artists that can also be wonderful choices for a wedding ceremony. Keep your ears open for them. Hopefully, the above guidelines should give you a good start toward picking the perfect music that will personalize your own wedding. Copyright 2006. Language Barrier

By Irina Chernoff Lets talk today about that wonderful time when your virtual for the present time bride from Russia will come into your house in the most real way and sayhmm, what will she say? Hello, John, how are you? And whats next? Next the couple thinks good of our agency: how wonderful it was when someone translated accurately all your thoughts. No language barrier! :)) It is a joke. Next the couple simply doesnt understand how to communicate further. With gestures? With the help of a dictionary? My darling, I will show you our house. This is a dining room, do you understand? It is where we eat (shows with gestures), and this is a bedroom, here we will sleep (shows). It is amusing to imagine all this, but it is not so funny to find yourself in this situation! And now imagine, what a girl feels. To feel at least a little in her boots, move yourself mentally into the jungles, into the wild tribe and imagine yourself married to one of those beautiful girls in animal skins. Imagined? I am deaf and dumb. I watch TV and dont understand a word! I look at the ad, but see only a sequence of symbols! Even a one-year old child can explain to his parents what he wants, and me an educated European girl, mother, and just sociable person cant even choose dishes in a menu! All the life experiences I have (education, culture, traditions and customs) are of no use here, everything is different!!! I go with my husband even to the gynecologist and he comes as a translator between me and the doctor. These are lines from the interview with Lena our former client, who moved to the USA three years ago. We told about her in the summer 2004. Well, do you feel in her boots now? You are deaf and dumb in this tribe, you dont know local customs, you dont have friends and relatives, only a husband who you know by correspondence and a couple of meetings. Secondly, you feel hunger for information. You dream about lying on the couch and watching TV in your native language, being calm and relaxed, but not in constant tension trying to understand what all these flashing pictures and odd sounds mean. You dream about talking to someone who speaks your mother tongue. You are tired of constant 24/7 study. You are inadequate, people either laugh at your actions or criticize. Because they turn out to be inappropriate in this society. You are close to going mad!!! Thats what those women, who marry a man from another country and dont know the language of the country, feel for the first time. But Id like to emphasize for the first time. If it continued forever, there would be no sense in international marriages. Step by step the situation is improving! Here is how one of the lucky men who married a Russian woman describes it: My wife spoke no English at all when I met her. We had our correspondence translated through an agency, and we spoke with a translator on line when we spoke on the telephone. When I visited her in the Crimea we used an Ectaco electronic speaking dictionary, which was quite effective and a lot of fun, and occasionally a live translator. She's been here three and a half years now. She speaks quite well. We bought a business for her about a year and a half ago and she has no trouble dealing with customers all day. She still has a way to go to be truly fluent, but she is relaxed about language now and completely independent. At times she is now able to explain my faults to me in great detail, in English. :-0 So, all these problems are overcome. Lena and many other women agree in opinion that the most difficult time is the first year. If you overcome it, it becomes much easier then. But are there any possible ways to ease the first year? Here is what you can do while she is still in Russia and waits for a fiance visa. 1. Pay for her English classes. She tried to take some English classes while she was still in Ukraine, but they were not very effective, - writes the same man in the forum. Dont expect that after classes she will start to speak fluent English at once. - Her task at this stage is to broaden her vocabulary and practice grammar. Itll also be very good if a teacher manages to take off her fear to speak the foreign language. - The classes should be as often as you both can afford. It will help her to prepare better to the reality she will meet in another country. Remember - 24/7? 2. After you made a decision to marry and submitted the necessary documents, your fiance should use the service of translators as less as possible. She must understand your vocabulary, get used to your way of thinking. If she meets unfamiliar words or expressions, then she can consult translators. We always support women in that in the agency and help if necessary. We explain how to translate this or that so that she could do it by herself then.
3. Phone her and talk as often as possible. Tell her the subject of your next conversation beforehand, then she can get ready to it with the tutor and hold conversation with you.
4. Probably, you will start learning Russian? When she comes to you: 1. In many countries there are special language classes for immigrants from non-English speaking countries. Here is what Lena says about them: Education there goes very slowly. No, veeeeery slowly. We repeat the same things over and over again. I would like to learn quicker. However there is one plus in such study: you get very firm knowledge and never forget it. Of course! We repeated it so many times! Such classes are free of charge it is one more plus. Anyway if she doesnt like them, she can go to any other classes. One of our girls even entered the University! Here is what one man tells about their experience: When my wife arrived here we tried both expensive private classes in small groups, and the ESOL classes at a local community college. She did not learn much at the ESOL classes at the community college. Many other people do very well at these ESOL classes, but we did not have that experience. But she learned well at the private classes. The group that provided them was called English Now. It was about $600 a month as I recall for group lessons. It took her about a year to become fluent enough to be independent out in the world. We stopped paying for lessons at that time and she just learned by living and speaking. 2. Communication with Russians. There is an opinion that it is necessary to limit the communication with Russians. Some men are afraid that a Russian wife may find another man among local Russians, others that she will be lazy to speak English and will wish to talk in Russian with her country fellows all the time. Well, what can I say? Apparently these fears are not ungrounded. The problem of jealousy can be eliminated if she communicates with Russian women who are also married to foreign men. Probably, these couples will become your family friends. As it happened to one of our clients who regularly gathers all international families in the neighborhood at their house and husbands communicate in English and their wives in Russian and all are happy! To forbid her outright the communication with Russians is unwise. Put yourself in her shoes all the time. Dont forget that she sacrificed everything to be with you! 3. It is very good if she has a child. First of all, she always has someone to talk in Russian with! :)) Secondly, it is a well-known fact that children adjust very quickly, they acquire friends and learn a new language much easier. Nataliya, our former client who lives in New York now, wrote to us: My daughter is doing very well at school here, even though her English is still far from perfection. But with each day she knows it better and better. In the shops she always talks to shop-assistants as my personal translator. :) 4. Be a patient tutor, not only a husband, but also a friend to your wife. You are the only close man for her in this country and you must become her guide and teacher. 5. Stimulate her. The main stimulus is your relations. Keep telling her how much you love her. Take care of her, defend her and never laugh at her mistakes. Then she will always know that her efforts are not lost and her learning will go much faster! Best wishes

Lipstick Tips - How to Apply Lipstick Perfectly

By Sheila Dicks The wrong color lipstick, heavy lip liner and lips that have been drawn on are common makeup mistakes that will ruin your overall look. Many women who are unsure of how to wear lipstick skip that step totally leaving makeup looking unbalanced. Perfect looking lips are attainable and begin with an ideal lip line. You can have lips that look like a makeup artist did them simply by following a few important steps. 1. When applying foundation continue over the lips to provide a base for lip liner and lipstick. 2. Keeping your mouth-closed trace a fine line around the lips with a sharp pencil. A blunt pencil will make blending more difficult. Start at the v of the top lip and move outward to lip corners by making short strokes (rest your hand on your chin for better control). After you have penciled in the top lip, begin from the middle of the bottom lip and move outward also. Follow the natural lip line. 3. To make lips look larger follow the outer edge of the natural lip line making sure not to go over the natural lip line. To make lips look smaller follow the inside of the natural lip line. 4. Lipstick will stay on longer if the whole lip is filled in with lip liner before lipstick is applied. If you decide to use this technique, be aware that darker lip liner will darken the look of your lipstick. And, if you are going for a light look use a light lip liner. 5. Now that lips are filled in, apply lipstick with a lipstick brush (using a lip brush will give you more control). When lipstick has been applied, with lips closed, lay a tissue across both lips to blot. You are ready to go, with perfect lips. Continue with touch ups during the day. If you are not used to wearing lipstick, it will probably take awhile to get used to having your lips done and not eating the lipstick. The plus to having nice lips, aside from the obvious, is you will never be plagued with dry lips again an over time they become softer. Thats certainly reason enough to take care of your lips. How to Keep Your Quilts Beautiful

By Pauline Rogers Creating a quilt requires much time and effort. Meant to be cherished and enjoyed, quilts can end up damaged by improper use, cleaning, storage and display. Whether created for every day use or as heirlooms, proper care will ensure that they last to bring the pleasure intended. Use When planning a quilt consider the intended use. What fabrics are used, the type of quilting done, etc. - are dependent on the intended use of the quilt. So decide if the quilt will be used as an everyday quilt on a bed or is it meant to be an heirloom and thus displayed but not used. Keep in mind that a quilt for a cot, child or lap quilt definitely needs to be of a fabric that is durable and washable, as it will require more frequent laundering. Cleaning Baby and lap quilts will get soiled and need to be washed often. It is important that a mild soap is used and that the quilt is rinsed well. Quilt shops carry products specially designed for quilts. "Quilt Wash" is one such product. All commercial detergents are much too harsh and will strip colour from quilt fabrics. A great product for stains, yellowing or other stubborn marks is "Restoration". Laundering a quilt may not be necessary. Many will only require having the dust removed. The best way to remove dust from a sturdy quilt is to place a nylon stocking, over the nozzle of a vacuum and then gently vacuum the quilt--preferably on both sides. Avoid surface abrasion. Airing a quilt can also remove odours and dust. There is no need to beat the quilt and keep in mind that sunlight is bad for your quilt. Dry cleaning a quilt is not recommended. It is not a gentle method as large tumble machines are used and harsh chemicals are applied, which can be quite damaging. Storage Light and moisture are a quilts worst enemies. Direct sunlight will not only fade the newest and highest quality fabric in no time at all, but it also will cause the fibers to weaken. Moisture can cause mildew to form, which can be not only difficult to remove, but impossible. Many people use cardboard boxes and plastic bags with the intention of protecting their precious quilts. Both of these gather moisture, causing stains and encouraging mildew and musty smells. They are bad choices for storage. The big plastic storage boxes are not any better, as they do not have ventilation. A closet shelf is a much better choice. Do not use open shelving as this exposes the quilt to light and you will end up with fading along the folds. The storage area should be clean, cool, dry, dark, and as free as possible from drastic changes in temperature and humidity. If you have shelf space, it is a good idea to fold the length of the quilt and roll, to eliminate creases. The next time, fold a different way before rolling. It is also essential that the quilt is clean and dust free before put it away. Stains can attract insects while dust particles actually create abrasion, causing wear. Avoid storing near an outside wall where condensation will occur particularly in winter. Be aware that smoke for cigarettes and fireplaces can seek out stored textiles leaving an ugly surprise.
One of the best places to store a quilt is on a bed. Do you have a guest room? Pile your quilts on the unused bed, in layers, and then top with a cotton sheet to block the light. No matter where you choose to store your quilts, it is important to inspect them every two to three months. Take them out to air them for a few hours and examine, front and back. It is a good idea to clean the storage area at this time before putting the quilts back. Display Both sunlight and artificial light will cause fading. Never display a quilt where direct sunlight will reach it. If you have fluorescent lighting, it is wise to cover the tubes with a UV shield. When hanging a quilt, use a method that will distribute the weight over the entire width of the quilt. Sew a four inch wide tube or sleeve of fabric along the top edge on the back of the quilt and stitch through all layers of the quilt every inch or so. Do not use nails, pins or staples to hang a quilt. These can tear through fabrics, corrode and cause staining and cause distortion of heavier quilts. Cherish your quilts and they will reward you with years of enjoyment. Pauline Rogers has travelled throughout Australia and New Zealand for over 20 years, teaching the art of patchwork and quilting. She operates an award winning shop, Country Fabrics and Quilters, in Toowoomba, Queensland as well as a successful mail order and online service. The Super "Simple" Guide to Moisturizing Additives

By Renee Bombardier Enriched with Vitamin E!Loaded with Shea Butter!Drenched in Sweet Almond Oil!High Glycerin content! We've all seen the splashy advertising for bath and body products that guarantee our skin will be thankful and forever soft because of the fabulous additives they are enriched with. All the pictures of nature scenes on the bottles look very convincing. The question is whether what's inside the package can improve your skin? Yes! It absolutely can, if you know what you're buying. Glycerin: a vegetable based humectant - in plain English this means that it draws moisture out of the air and holds it. When you use a soap that is high in glycerin the moisture is sucked right out of the air and held to your skin! It is a very effective way to keep your whole body happy and soft. Shea Butter - extracted from the nuts of the Shea-Karite tree (in Africa). It has been known and used for centuries for hair and skin rejuvenation. It is fatty acid that gives Shea Butter its unique healing properties. It is particularly helpful for sun damaged skin. It helps prevent premature wrinkles, facial lines, acne, eczema, and other skin irritations. Vitamin F acts as a skin protector and rejuvenator. It soothes rough, dry or chapped skin. The less processed the better! A wonderful additive. This can be used daily! Sweet Almond Oil - It is rich in protein and penetrates the skin for effective moisturizing. It conditions, softens and smoothes skin. Also contains vitamins A and E. It is a very effective emollient. Jojoba oil or beads - it is actually a wax, not oil. It is in liquid form and is similar to human skin, so it absorbs easily. It promotes cellular healing, and skin elasticity. Great in any bath or body product! Hemp oil - is cold pressed from the seeds of the hemp plant. It contains essential fatty acids, vitamins A, D, minerals and Omega 3&6. This makes it the only oil to have these Omega acids besides fish. A wonderful addition to your skin care line. Vitamin E - is a great antioxidant for your skin and significantly helps in the reduction of scaring from wounds and has been shown to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks on the skin. Because there are a few forms of Vitamin E, it is very important to purchase vitamin E skincare products with the right form of vitamin E. You should be sure it is alpha tocopherol, or mixed tocopherols not the synthetic acetate. WARNING - be sure to check your soap labels for ingredients. If is has a harsh surfactant, detergent, or preservative it will strip your skin of all its nutrients and will make any helpful additive ineffective! Your skin will be drier than when you started. Here is my list of the top 5 most harmful ingredients to avoid: DMDM Hydantoin SLS - Sodium Lauryl Sulphate Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES) Methylparabens DEA (diethanolomine) Renee Bombardier is co-owner of www.simpletreasures.ca, a home-based craft business located in Ontario, Canada. Smartphones - The OS Does Matter

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Peter_Boston]Peter Boston There is no precise definition for smartphone but one that works for everybody is a cell phone with a computer operating system. More and more road warriors are leaving their laptop and disconnected PDA behind for short trips because a smartphone can do all the same things that a PDA can and some essential things a laptop can in a smaller package. The new Moto Q is 0.45 inches thin and weighs-in at 4.1 ounces. If you are considering downsizing your personal mobile office or want to provide some input to your IT manager here is one major consideration about choosing a PDA smartphone. The popularity of smart phone operating systems has taken different paths in the USA and the rest of the industrialized world. Symbian OS, an open standard operating system for data enabled mobile phones, is the top seller with a huge 76% smart phone market share worldwide. RIM, which makes Blackberry, has only a 6% worldwide market share, but dominates the USA with 53% of the domestic smart phone market. Palm OS, which has been around since 1996, has about 1/3 of the US market. Talking about operating systems is geeky but the OS is the guts of every PDA smart phone and will, in the end, determine what you can do with your smart phone. RIM has a proprietary OS which is unbeatable for secure email but will not allow you to easily edit a Microsoft Word document. Blackberry is a first class product with one-stop business solutions. RIM has deserved brand loyalty and will continue to do well within the corporate environment. A lone wolf who works with Microsoft Office on his desktop may find himself disadvantaged if RIM OS cannot keep up with the flow of new smart phone applications from other manufacturers. Palm also has a proprietary operating system but appears to be positioning itself to survive in a Windows Mobile world as well. The new generation of Palm Treos comes with Windows Mobile. Smart phone consumers are looking for business applications beyond contact information and email. GPS tracking and GPS navigation are but two. Microsoft already has 20,000 applications for its smart phone platform, and an army of developers to keep new applications coming. Perhaps you would not make a smart phone purchase decision based solely on the operating system, but you do want to be sure that the smart phone OS will not prevent you from integrating with what is already on your desktop. Plus, categorizing smart phones by operating system instead of brand will narrow the choices and help un-complicate the decision making. These are the major brands and the primary operating system of recently introduced smartphones. Some brands may use Symbian OS on older models with ARM processors. Some models are Java enabled. A Peek at Nursing as a Career

By David Crowton We need more people to choose nursing as a career. There is a national shortage, so the career choice would guarantee future employment fresh out of school. Just last week, as I was taking care of a patient of mine, a doctor asked, "Kim, how did you decide to become a nurse?"
That question caused me to reflect over nearly 25 years, and it still causes me to wonder sometimes. You see, I was not one of those little girls that wished to be a nurse, although I really liked the head nurse on Emergency. I told her, "You know, I think nursing chose me." I went on to explain that I had changed my career path my freshman year of college. I was taking courses that I found to be interesting, along with the 'basics'. After a year of not committing to a degree plan, my dad put his foot down and he strongly encouraged me to find some direction. I remember thumbing through the college catalog and finding the degree plan for nursing. I was surprised to see that I had taken nearly every prerequisite course except for anatomy and physiology. I applied to the program, was accepted and the rest is history. Being a nurse has real advantages. Continuing education is an integral part of most professions. Nursing is no exception. This knowledge actually saved the life of one of my children! Patrick was almost 4 years old. He was enjoying a piece of Halloween candy. My husband was watching him, and he called me in when he saw that Patrick was choking. I gave those 5 abdominal thrusts as if I did it every day of my life, when in fact I had only performed it on a few mannequins over the years. That piece of candy shot out, just like in the videos that they would make us watch. Never again do I groan when the lights go down and we have to watch that same training video. Scrubs Another advantage to this profession is the uniform. What other profession allows you to wear clothes that are as comfortable as pajamas! And they are so much more colorful than that starched white from years ago. I had to wear a nursing cap with the white uniform and the white hose and shoes when I was in nursing school. Now you can tell what Holiday is around the corner based on the attire of the nursing staff. Another change for the better is that more men are entering the profession. I think that it has bettered the salaries. For fear of making sexist or offensive remarks, I will leave it at that. Continuing in my footsteps. Today, my oldest child is attending a nursing program. She will be a nurse in less than a year. I have no doubt that she will be an excellent asset to the profession. She did not decide to do this as a career until she was in college for a year. Choosing nursing as a career If you like working with people and helping them during some of the most important times of their lives, then I have no doubt you would thrive in your career as a nurse.
